District Mental Health Programme Trivandrum

The aims of DMHP are:
• To provide sustainable mental health services to the community and to integrate
these with Health services.
• Early detection of patients within the community itself.
• To see that, patients and their relatives do not have to travel long distance to go to
hospitals or nursing homes in the cities.
• To take pressure off the mental hospitals and Medical colleges.
• To reduce the stigma attached towards mental illness through change of attitude
and public education.
• To treat and rehabilitate mental patients discharged from the mental hospital within the community
