History
In 1976 a group of Orthodox Christian Youth Movement members of Kottayam Diocese thought about a center for technical education, which is very few at those times. His Grace Mathews Mar Ivanios took this idea wholeheartedly and established a private ITC in the compound of Nilackal Orthodox Church, Puthuppally. After a year the ITC reestablished at Pothenpuram hills with initiative of Mar Ivanios.
Pampady Thirumeni
Kuriakose Mar Gregorios, Metropolitan of Kottayam Diocese (1929-1965), is popularly known as Pampady Thirumeni. He was born to Chacko and Elachi of Pezhamattom family at Pampady in the year 1885. From very young age he lived a pious and devoted life. In 1895 he entered into deaconate. He was a disciple of two saints: Geevarghese Mar Gregorios (Parumala Thirumeni) and Geevarghese Mar Dionysius (Vattasseril Thirumeni). He became a priest and a Ramban in consecutive days in 1906. Even at the young age as a deacon, he performed many miracles through his earnest prayers. Later on, knowing his prayerful life, Mr. Raman Pillai, known as Madathil Ashan, his boyhood teacher, donated him 12 acers of land to establish a monastery at Pothenpuram hills, a remote place away from the noisy world. He stayed there in prayers and fasting for several years. Later he was ordained bishop and was appointed as the Metropolitan of Kottayam Diocese. During the course of time through pious life he did many miracles and he was able to secure a place in the hearts of the faithful. Rather than a saint or a bishop he was a true lover of nature, animals, birds, and human beings. In 1965 April 5th, the very day of his birthday, he entered into eternal rest and entombed in Pampady Dayara. The Dayara chapel and the tomb are refuge to many, irrespective of cast and religion. Indeed, it is a blessing to study at such serene and holy place. Many alumnae of the MMI ITI believe that the blessings of Pampady Thirumeni was the source of their achievements.
Mathews Mar Ivanios (Founder)
Mathews Mar Ivanios was born to Mathew and Achamma in 1888 January 18 in Valiya Paret family at Puthuppally. Became a deacon in 1899 and became a disciple of Saint Geevarghese Mar Dionysius (Vattasseril Thirumeni). He was ordained to the holy priesthood in 1920 and became the vicar of Puthuppally St. George Church. In 1953 he was ordained Episcopo and after the demise of Saint Kuriakose Mar Gregorios became the Metropolitan of Kottayam Diocese. During his lifetime he made many courageous steps to uplift the wellbeing of the society, especially, the women and the downtrodden of the society. Mathews Mar Ivanios Private ITI is such a great endeavor through which he dreamt the upliftment of the rural society as a whole. He thought technical education will help the youth to find jobs locally as well as internationally. His effort attained a good result. Thousands of youth made their way to a higher economical and social status. It should be specially mentioned that, when he found difficult to fund the project, he sold his own ancestral property and bought two and half acers of land near by the Pampady Dayara and established the present ITI. On 30th August 1980 he entered into eternal rest and entombed at Pampady Mar Kuriakose Dayara.
