The college was started by the Travancore Devaswam Board in June 1964. The late Sri. Kumpalathu Sanku Pillai was the the founder. Renowned Dramatist the late Prof. G. Sankara Pillai and novelist M.D. Rethnamma were teachers of this institution. The alumni are placed in prestigious positions in scientific, art and literary fields. Famous cine artist Bharat Murali is one among them.
