കേരളത്തിലെ വൈജ്ഞാനിക പുസ്തകപ്രസിദ്ധീകരണരംഗത്തെ പ്രമുഖ സ്ഥാപനമാണ് കേരള സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ സാംസ്‌ക്കാരിക വകുപ്പിനു കീഴില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു വരുന്ന കേരള ഭാഷാ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട്. 1968 ല്‍ സ്ഥാപിതമായതു മുതല്‍ ശാസ്ത്രം, സാങ്കേതികശാസ്ത്രം, മാനവിക വിഷയങ്ങള്‍, ഭാഷാ, സാഹിത്യം എന്നീ മേഖലകളിലായി 5000 ത്തോളം പുസ്തകങ്ങള്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഭാഷാ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഉന്നതവിദ്യാഭ്യാസ മേഖലയ്ക്കും പൊതുവായനയ്ക്കും വേണ്ടി മികച്ച പുസ്തകങ്ങള്‍ തയാറാക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് കേരളത്തിലെ അക്കാദമിക-ബൗദ്ധിക മേഖലകളിലെ സജീവസാന്നിധ്യമായിത്തീര്‍ന്നു. വിഷയങ്ങളുടെ വൈവിധ്യം, ഓരോ വിഷയത്തിലും ഉള്ള പുസ്തകങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണവും വൈവിധ്യവും, സമകാലിക വിഷയങ്ങളിലെ നിരവധി പുസ്തകങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഭാഷാ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിനെ മറ്റു പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണശാലകളില്‍ നിന്ന് വേറിട്ടു നര്‍ത്തുന്നു. എല്ലാ വിഷയങ്ങളിലെയും ക്ലാസിക് കൃതികളുടെ വിവര്‍ത്തനവും ഭാഷാ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് നിര്‍വഹിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ശാസ്ത്രസാങ്കേതിക പദാവലിയുടെ നിര്‍മാണവും പ്രചരണവുമാണ് ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രവര്‍ത്തന മേഖല. വിജ്ഞാനശബ്ദാവലി ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ 20 ല്‍ പരം ശബ്ദാവലികള്‍ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ശബ്ദതാരാവലിക്കു ശേഷം മലയാളത്തില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകൃതമായ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാന നിഘണ്ടുവായ കേരള ഭാഷാ നിഘണ്ടു ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ 25 ഓളം നിഘണ്ടുക്കളും ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് തയാറാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ലിപി പരിഷ്‌കരണം, മലയാളം കംപ്യൂട്ടിങ് തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിലും ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് സവിശേഷ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. മലയാളത്തിലെ ഏക വൈജ്ഞാനിക മാസികയായ വിജ്ഞാനകൈരളി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്നത് കേരള ഭാഷാ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടാണ്.
